Horizon Forbidden West is not yet available for PC. However, we are confident that it will be announced soon. Sony has been open about its intention to bring first-party games to PC, including Death Stranding and Days Gone. Even the famously PlayStation-exclusive Uncharted is apparently headed for PC at some point. It’s also worth noting that Forbidden West, the PlayStation exclusive, has been delayed to early 2022. This will inevitably push the PC release even further away.
The rumor about the delay was first reported by Jeff Grubb during his Giant Bomb program (via GamesRadar), that Sony was “leaning towards” delaying the game to next year. However, he believed the matter had not been resolved. However, a Bloomberg report today claims that the decision has been made and Horizon Forbidden West has been delayed.
This delay could make 2022, already a huge year for PC gaming and a great year, even more exciting. Based on the planned releases, it was expected to be memorable with new games such as Starfield, Stalker 2 and Baldur’s gate 3, but a series of delays has pushed it even further. Ghostwire: Tokyo and Rainbow Six Extraction were all canceled. Also, Sifu and Lord of the Rings: Gollum have been pulled out of 2021. Kerbal Space Program 2, Stray and many other titles have been delayed.
This delay has not been confirmed officially at this time. However, even if it is (or when), it does not necessarily mean Horizon Forbidden West will be available on PC in 2022. Horizon Zero Dawn launched on PC three years after it was originally released on PS4. Horizon Forbidden West launched on PC only three years later. Hermen Hulst, PlayStation Studios boss, stated that despite the interest in the PC, Sony will continue to prioritize its consoles. “Releasing games on PC won’t come at the cost of building an exciting line of great console games.”
But Horizon Forbidden West is not a PlayStation 5-exclusive: It’s also coming to the PS4, which—perhaps optimistically–could mean that a relatively not-too-far-off PC release is in the works too. I reached out to Guerrilla Games inquiring about the delay. I will update this post if I get a response.
