God of War: Ragnarok, the ‘End Of The Norse Saga’ Suggests There’s More to Come
God of War enthusiasts has been wondering what will happen to Kratos or Atreus after the Norse period. Given that Kratos did the leap from the Greek to Norse pantheon, it is possible to jump between pantheons. Williams stated Ragnarok was the end of the Norse series. This could indicate that a new series may be on its way.
The God of War: Fallen God comics tells Kratos’ story before being absorbed into the Norse pantheon. One of his most memorable trips was to Egypt. Kratos is told in the comic that he has an Egyptian destiny. This could hint at a return. This could indicate that the Egyptian series may be about to start if the Norse series ends.
The 2018 God of War was in its early stages of development. The Santa Monica Studio team was split on exploring Egyptian or Norse mythology. Although the Norse setting was more suitable for the story, Egypt was seriously considered. There is evidence that Egypt could be next, with the Norse series ending in God of War Ragnarok.
Atreus and Kratos discover Japanese artifacts at Tyr’s vault in God of War. Perhaps that was a hint that Japan might be next on the list. Now that Tyr has been confirmed to play a greater role in God of War Ragnarok, he might be able to offer Kratos or Atreus some ideas on jumping pantheons.
Atreus could be the Next Star of the Next Series.
God of War hinted that Kratos could die in Ragnarok at Atreus’ hands. This, or some variant thereof, will mean that more than the Norse series will end.
Since 2005, Kratos has been the protagonist of God of War. It’s been quite an impressive run. All good things must come to an end. God of War may be the final chapter in Kratos’ story. Santa Monica has set Atreus up as a character who could take control of the franchise in his father’s stead, and while Atreus doesn’t have a lot in common with his father, he does have the potential.
Atreus will likely take over the franchise if Kratos passes away in Ragnarok. It would be difficult for Kratos fans to part ways after fifteen years of being with him, but it is also an opportunity to start a new series. Kratos’ story should come to an end than to drag it on, and Atreus is a better choice.
Even if Kratos does not die, Ragnarok may allow him to pass the torch on to his son. Ragnarok looks like it will be a huge coming-of-age adventure for Atreus. In the end, Kratos might take a step back to let Atreus go on his own. Atreus could go to Egypt on his own or embark on some other solo adventure.
Fans could experience a rollercoaster ride when God of War Ragnarok launches. It’s bittersweet to see the Norse chapter end, but the God of War franchise was given new life by the Norse pantheon. But that also means that there are tons of new and exciting opportunities for the future of Kratos and Atreus.
