Caves of Qud update has relaxed story mode and a coral-encrusted arcology

Caves of Qud, the strange and large roguelike Caves of Qud, has received a significant update on October 25. This update adds two new regions, a village, and many other improvements to make it easier for anyone who wants to explore this intimidating genre.

The creators claim that Palladium Reef has: “Wandering and Roleplay modes,” 9 preset builds; beautiful new chargen interface; an arcology plastered with coral, gutsmongers, organ markets; thousand-year-old Frogs; biblically accurate Angels; extradimensional clams; an algae snack; something called “sunslag”; skin glitter, tongue Tyrants, spaser weapon, spaser weapons, starkraken, flowerfolk and psychal fleshgun and psychal fleshgun and a conversation pit.

Wander and Roleplay modes were announced earlier this year as less violent and checkpoint-save-enabled ways to play a game that traditionally has involved a lot of combat and a lot of permadeath.

Caves of Qud is an RPG that combines science and fantasy. It’s reminiscent of traditional roguelikes. There’s a lot of text description, intricate mechanics, and lots of graphics. The most exciting thing about Caves of Qud is the wide range of mutants and strangeos that you can make for your character. You can have up to 12 arms or put ground-penetrating radar on your torso.

Jason Grinblat (designer on Qud) stated that there was too much in the patch to cover.

Two new late-game areas are Lake Hinnom (and the Palladium Reef)

New village: The Yd Freehold, and new side quest

All-new UI and a simplified character creation process.

For new players, there are nine preset character designs.

Two new game modes are Roleplay (with checkpointing) and Wander (less fighting). [these are in beta but will launch with this patch].

There are many new items, creatures, and cybernetic devices.

The Qud inhabitants would say, “Live and Drink, Friend.” Caves of Qud can be found on the official site and sale on Steam,, and GOG.
