How Taika Waititi Almost Missed Out On Directing Thor: Ragnarok

Taika Waititi was very close to not being the director of Thor: Ragnarok, the critically acclaimed Marvel film. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a huge box office success for Disney, and Thor: Ragnarok was a great movie. Ragnarok, the 17th MCU movie, was released after the disappointing Thor: The Dark World. The movie was praised for its bright visuals, offbeat humour and engaging direction. The movie grossed $854 million at the box office and was the highest-grossing instalment of the trilogy.
The movie is set after Avengers: Age of Ultron. It follows Thor as he tries to escape Sakaar, an alien planet, and return to Asgard to defend Hela and the impending Ragnarok. Tom Hiddleston plays Loki, and Mark Ruffalo reprises his MCU role of Hulk. Other big names include Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett and Idris Elba. The movie’s screenplay and direction have been the most popular features.

The Story of Marvel Studios, a new book that details these events, is now available. Slash Film reported that the director’s misplaced passport nearly threatened to stop him from participating in his first Marvel movie. Waititi celebrated his birthday in Hawaii when Kevin Feige invited him to pitch to Marvel’s head in LA. The 46-year old looked like he had lost his chance of getting to LA because he had sent his luggage home with his passport. The director was able to find his Visa letter from The Walt Disney Company regarding his screenplay work on Moana. He showed it to the TSA agents at security and explained his situation. The agents, who were Moana lovers, confirmed his identity and Waititi was then able to present his pitch.

It is incredible to consider the small margins involved and how close Waititi was to not directing this project. This urban legend will live on in The Walt Disney Company’s history and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans will look forward to Thor: Love & Thunder, the fourth instalment of the Thor series. Currently, in post-production, the movie is scheduled to be released in 2022. Star Chris Hemsworth praised Waititi’s storytelling and humour, as well as the Love & Thunder script. Natalie Portman will play the role of Peter Quill, and Chris Pratt will star as Guardians of the Galaxy. Disney and Marvel will undoubtedly be hoping that Ragnarok is as successful as the movie.

Waititi is currently working on Thor: Love & Thunder. He also has other projects on the small and big screens. These include Next Goal Wins sports comedy-drama, directing and writing, and the FX comedy series Reservation Dogs. It remains to be seen if Waititi will continue to participate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, it is clear that his involvement in Thor: Ragnarok and its sequel has given the Hunt For The Wilderpeople director a lot and made him a favourite among Marvel fans around the globe.

Taika Waititi is currently working on a variety of movie projects, including Thor: Love and Thunder. Waititi can do it all in the entertainment industry. He is an actor, director, writer and producer. New Zealand’s Waititi gained mainstream recognition for his 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok, part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, he is also well-known for his independent films. Waititi, who is already attached to several major titles, will build on his success.

Waititi was the director of several New Zealand films, including Eagle vs Shark (his first solo Thor film) and Boy (his second). He wrote, directed and starred alongside Jemaine Clement in 2014’s What We Do In the Shadows. The horror-comedy mockumentary, The Vampires of Suburbia, followed a group living in a suburban apartment. It was acclaimed by critics and became a cult favourite. Waititi followed up with Hunt for the Wilderpeople. It was a New Zealand premiere hit and was a huge success.
