James Gunn, director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol., has addressed rumours regarding Moondragon’s casting. 3. 2023 is the date for releasing the third instalment of the Guardians of the Galaxy series. The cast that starred as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana are returning, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, like Rocket and Groot. Gunn also penned the script, which follows the further exploits of the spacefaring crew of misfits-turned-heroes.
Gunn was instrumental in bringing the Guardians of the Galaxy from the darkness of comic book obscurity. He introduced them to the world through the first film. This film received critical and audience praise while also opening the cinematic doors to lesser-known Marvel heroes. After Avengers: Endgame, the Guardians were seen again heading out into space with Thor. Their next appearance is scheduled for Thor: Love & Thunder 2022, but the extent of their involvement remains unknown. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has not revealed much beyond casting. MCU Updates tweeted that Daniela Melchior, The Suicide Squad, had been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as Moondragon. This would have been Moondragon’s debut appearance in the MCU. Gunn, however, took to Twitter to dispel the rumour. Gunn’s tweet was concise and direct, stating, “FALSE.” Below is Gunn’s tweet:

Gunn is well-known for working with the same actors on multiple projects, including Nathan Fillion, Michael Rooker, and even his brother Sean Gunn. This supports the rumours since Gunn recently directed Melchior in The Suicide Squad. The Suicide Squad also featured Melchior’s outstanding performance as Ratcatcher 2, which probably helped the rumour gain traction. Moondragon’s involvement with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is not confirmed.

Moondragon, Drax’s daughter with psychic abilities, is mentioned in the comics. Ronan has also been mentioned as having killed Drax’s family in the MCU. However, this leaves space for her introduction. A similar event took place in the comics. Moondragon was raised with monks, and she also gained her powers. Gunn should be able to introduce the character if he chooses. Gunn could also provide more emotional depth to Drax. Bautista had previously mentioned that he would be retiring as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be the ideal way to send off the character by bringing his daughter back in the picture. After numerous meetings with Gunn and Disney high-ups, not to mention the outpouring support from Guardians cast members, the studio was impressed by his genuine repentance and reinstated him.

Filming is expected to start in November 2021. This means that some details, including casting information, are finally becoming public. Gunn confirmed that Will Poulter had been cast to play Adam Warlock, the cosmic being first teased in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The post-credits scene. Ayesha, a high priestess from the Sovereign race, created a new being that she plans to call Adam. Ayesha wants Adam Warlock to be her weapon against Star-Lord, the Guardians and other races. This sets up a traditional superhero story where characters meet and then team up in the third act.
