After 19 years in development, absurdly ambitious Morrowind mod reveals new roadmap

We still have a long way to go before getting The Elder Scrolls 6. So instead of looking into the future, why not look back to 2002? Tamriel Rebuilt, a mod for The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, adds a large landmass to The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, hundreds of new quests, and scores of original NPCs. It also features several unique creatures based on The Elder Scrolls’ lore, as well as hours of exploration and gameplay.

This is not the first time you have heard of Tamriel Rebuilt. For almost 20 years, the mod project has been under development. We spoke with the modders many years ago. The modders claim that they are trying to fulfill the original intent of Morrowind, which is to have the game cover all of Tamriel and not just Vvardenfell. The modders have been adding the whole mainland piece by piece for nearly two decades. They now estimate they are at around half of the way there. They’ve shared their 2022 plans.

They’ll be tackling the Velothi Mountains at the continent’s western edge (which forms the border between Skyrim and Morrowind) and some new locations known as the Roth Roryn badlands or the Armun Ashlands.

The mod’s website states that these regions are sparsely settled, making them more suitable for higher-level characters than previous releases. “The release area also contains our first major Hlaalu city–Andothren–which will be the main focus point for the more than 140 quests currently on track to being included in this release.”

The roster also includes expanding to the southeast. The post states that the Third Valley region embraces its namesake river as it gently winds towards the southern end of Lake Andaram. This area is home to many small- to medium-sized Hlaalu trading towns and Tanna plantations. They are all nestled among thick mushroom mangroves. Redoran Waters March was almost entirely pushed out by the Hlaalu expansion but still exists in the twin river fortresses of Ald Iuval or Ald Marak. Although the region appears peaceful, players could soon be caught up in vicious underworld rivalries.

The mod team is also in the process of overhauling some of their previous work. The expanded Firewatch, a significant city in The Elder Scrolls: Arena, will be available to players and have additional quests.

You can find lots more in the Tamriel Rebuilt roadmap. It also includes many screenshots and concept art. Tamriel Rebuilt is now playable, unlike many ambitious mods that are not available until they are more or less complete. You will need the mod files, Morrowind, and the Tribunal and Bloodmoon extensions. You can also download a music addon and other recommended files. All the information you need is right here.–jour
