Valve is updating Half-Life, CS:GO, and more of its games to play better on the Steam Deck

Valve reportedly developing new half-life for steam deck

During a Thursday interview with Valve, Steam Deck team members told me everything was on track for the February launch. We mainly discussed the Steam Deck hardware and Valve’s efforts to make the Steam Deck available for other developers. However, Valve also revealed some plans for its games. All three games in the Half-Life series, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, are getting new updates to improve their Steam Deck experiences.

The effort involves multiple Valve game development teams, but the games are updated for Steam Deck differs.

Greg Coomer, the designer of Dota, says that the Dota team is doing something quite innovative. They just released a new mode that allows players to use thumbsticks to play the game. A 4-player co-op mode was also added to the update. This seems to be a good fit for the control scheme.

Designer Lawrence Yang elaborates, “They call this experimental controller support because there’s still no feedback. But you can now play a real Dota game with the gamepad.”

Steam Controller enthusiasts who are devoted have likely been using gyro aiming in CS.GO for many years. However, the Steam Deck update will improve CS. GO’s controller support. Coomer described it as an update of the radial menus, which haven’t seen much use in a while. He said, “The team really is giving that renewed polish & design intention.”

Coomer stated that Valve would bring a “bunch of tweaks” to Half-Life. However, it seems less about controlling Gordon Freeman than navigation menus and such. He said that even though Half-Life games are very polished using a controller, many things in the experience can be left out or not brought up to the same standard over time. Updates should be made to all Half-Life games, even if not all at once.

Yang said that Portal games had been verified on Steam Deck, and they work well on the handheld. However, Left 4 Dead 2 is likely to be in the spotlight. He stated that he believes we should look at the entire Valve catalogue to ensure everything is working on Deck.–generate-now-2022–coins-generator2022–gems-generator-working-2022-android—get-unlimited-gems-coins—add-unlimited-gold-no-verification—add-unlimited-gold-no-verification/c/ebkVj6zsqsQ—how-to-get-free-gems
