Spider-Man Star Jacob Batalon Opens Up On His Weight Loss Journey
Spider-Man is Coming Home Jacob Batalon recently shared his weight loss story and how he lost more than 100 pounds. American actor Batalon is best known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Ned Leeds. He has appeared alongside Zendaya and Tom Holland in all three MCU Spider-Man films. He also made cameos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He has starred in Spider-Man and 50 States of Fright and Bubble Gang.
Together, Holland, Zendaya, and Batalon make an iconic trio and are the face of MCU’s Spider-Man film franchise. People instantly fell in love with Leeds because of his humor, bravery, and most importantly, because he was Peter Parker’s (Holland) most loyal friend and sidekick. Batalon left such an impression, No way home’s Alfred Molina asked for his autograph after they filmed together. His talent and work ethic shine through in his performances. But, his acting career is not the only one he has taken on recently.
Batalon spoke out about his journey to losing over 100 pounds in an interview with Men’s Health (via Persons). Batalon said that his weight gain was affecting his health and that he couldn’t believe that he could have gotten to this point. With the help and guidance, Batalon began going to the gym six times a week for 90 mins. His girlfriend also helped him to start a plant-based diet. He lost incredible weight and gained back his health with the combination diet and exercise routine. See his statement below.
This was the year I decided to transform my health and fitness. Even though I wasn’t exercising, I noticed that I felt tired at work. It was due to all the fatty foods I was eating. I was so naive that I didn’t even put on a shirt one day. It was unbelievable that I had allowed myself to get this far. This is what started it all. My girlfriend recently got me to eat a plant-based diet. It has helped my body. I can distinguish between eating lots of meat and eating plant-based foods. That’s also helped me. There was a lot to be thankful for in the world. I saw that many people were suffering, and I was fortunate to find my health.
Although viewers enjoyed watching Batalon as Leeds on the big screen and contemplating his future in MCU was a pleasure, it was hard to understand the difficulties that occurred behind the scenes. Although he seemed happy and full of laughter on the screen, his weight showed in real life. Weight loss is not something that everyone needs to do. However, when there is a significant impact on one’s health, it is a sign that weight loss is becoming a severe issue. The 25-year old realized that his health was not what it should have been and decided to make drastic changes before any more serious health problems.
Batalon’s inspiring story shows how one can take control of their health. While he acknowledged that 2020 was difficult for many, it was an opportunity to improve himself. Many people have gained weight since the Covid-19 pandemic. They were forced to work remotely or quarantined and could not go to the gym. Surprisingly though, Batalon could reverse the trend and make use of the time to improve his health and turn his life around. Excellent is the transformation Batalon has made since his Spider-Man performance. The Spider-Man actor’s tale encourages everyone to get back to health whenever necessary and reminds them that there is no limit to what they can achieve.
