It’s tragic that Shauna is unsure of herself. She is confident despite the fact that everyone tells her she’s too old or not beautiful enough. She says, “Actually, there’s this young, attractive, handsome person that is interested in me. And I believe that he’s.” She is in this relationship, and I don’t think she doubts it. Then people start to say […], and Shauna’s daughter says, “He couldn’t possibly love you.” This opens up a whole new world of questions about Shauna’s self-worth. I wanted the tragedy to be that she killed someone who could be a great friend for her.
Yellowjackets shows Shauna’s self doubts and unresolved trauma. The show’s creators reveal her guilt over Jackie’s fate. Before the crash, she was having an affair with Jeff, who was also a friend of Jackie’s, and had been pregnant with his child. She then disassociated herself from him. After a series of disagreements in the group, Jackie discovered the truth and was forced to leave the cabin she had taken shelter in. Jackie’s frozen body was discovered by the group when they tried to speak with her in the morning. The captain had died from sudden snowfall that night. The series shows Jackie’s guilt, with Shauna asking if things could have turned out differently if Jeff had stayed with Jackie.
